Although I got my first tattoo around 1966 I find that a black Tshirt and cap is also an extension of the kustom kar kulture of today. I could remember when tattoos belonged to the military, bikers or criminals and for a kid to have one, their parents would go nuts and disown them if they saw it. Yes, things have changed and not always for the better and I'd get hell for telling the truth in regards to many who believe they are pinstripers or artists just because they could make an upswing and down stroke design while wearing a black Tshirt with a baseball cap backwards, a couple tattoos, some piercings while using non lead based paint and a mack brush.

Now I know quite a lot of stripers from another era who either have or have not what pertains to this post and yet are quite comfortable just being who they are dressed or undressed, me included

well rollie so far I have only the holes I was born with and no tattoo's.
I have enough trouble with the holes I have I don't need more of them.
As far as tattoo's it always seems that I need my money else where so there fore
have never gotten one yet....I agree with Joey its not the clothes, the tats,
the peircing that make you a pinstriper but whether you have any talent or not.
Of course every artist is in a constent or should be constent mode of improving themselves
as an artist. I don't think it matters what you look like so much as the talent you have.
Their are plenty talented people out their with and without peircings and tats.

I agree with Joey.
I have Peirced ears from 40yrs ago, and still only one per side, haven't worn ear rings since, hmm, maybe 10 yrs ago? No tatts, always wanted a small dragon on my shoulder, but , I despise needles! I hope I don't follow my mom, sister, or neice's foot steps and become diabetic.
I haven't worked in the public since the last kid born(13), I'm just an at home hobbyist. I wear a couple black shirts that sport a car site I hang out in, otherwise light colored Ts, jeans, or in winter, camo. And no wild make up.
I'm not a pro, Maybe that's why I'm not getting any seriuos inquiries, I don't look the pinstriper part?????

Well if that's the case, I'll just stay secret then~ remember the old saying, 'clothes do not make the man' or in my case, woman.

I have to admit that I do have one tat, had it done in "62". Can't say that it improved my abilities with a brush, as for the black tee, I do own one, which I happen to be wearing today.
I asked a grandson about these things: he said it was just their thing.
I came to the conclusion that, every generational group has to establish a group identity. I think it has more to do with the music groups and emulating their look to show that you belong. Much like herds of animals, but don't quote me on this.

I think you guys are falling into the old basterd stage of life and are looking to bitch about any thing you can. In my day every one wore balck because we where mananughts we sleep with our sisters and like it.we had grease hair because we stoud to close to our horse. what ever happned to your youth full aditudes were you didnt care what people think. you did what you wanted and that was that.thiers no need to pick on these people they are just trying to put twist on the good old days you had. beside music and kulter of to day just doesnt have what you old basters had style sole AND LOVE OF LIFE.
sorry if I have afended

...nobody's bitchen' or picking on anybody...just wondering like the title says.....I never said there was anything wrong with it ..

Deadman, it's all just opinions. Not bitchin at all.
It's like my teen that turns 20 this year, swears he's not EMO, but he dresses like it, acts like it.
Whatever.
I don't care what folks think of me, at my age? 45, why? just can't understand though, how anyone can wear total black out there in that heat during summer lol!
Just go paint , I don't care what you wear, just be true to yourself, decent towards others and if you follow the crowd, be slightly different or you'll just blend in. 'the guy who striped my car?, around here somewhere, wearing all black and an arm full of tatts~'

No hard feelings here~
paint on~

For crying out loud John, you know my life is a lot different then that picture you've painted as I've never truly grew up and never really had a normal job.

Funny thing....whenever I walk into a new shop or client to pinstripe I get he same response...."you don't look like a pinstripier". OK, what is one suppose to look like? Just because I don't have tattoos all over but I am who I am and if someone doesn't like me with out all the tats and piercings then thats their problem.....

thats it from now on I'm doing all my pinstripin' in a thong.....oh wait no one wants to see that including my wife....ha ha
but seriously everyone remember one thing...it's suppose to be fun...be yourself and screw anyone that doesn't like it.
There is plently of room for everyone with talent whether or not you "look like" a pinstriper or not. Keep your brushes wet and your lines straight.

Practice practice practice.........

Well, who haven`t heard these words before...No secrets are revealed without years of practice.
I`ve just startet my journey into pinstriping and I find most difficult, irritating and exciting. I sit for hours just practicing lines and once in a while there comes a straight line and I can smell a bit of hope in the darkness.
In the beginning there is always alot of "AHA" and "F#$?%" moments...but never before have I felt this kind of calm and at the same time impatient feeling when studying some… Continue
