Hey Rollie:
I have to admit I have one that I did myself when I was 12 years old.The old,"needle and thread and India ink" trick.Funny how those things never seem to fade away!
Although I have long admired tattoos I never had the desire to get one.I'll take that back:I did try to get a spider done between my thumb and forefinger when I was in the Navy but nobody would do anything below the wrist. It was actually a court-martial offense if you did.
I know a bunch of pinstripers who are also tattoo artists so they are adorned.

I'm like Ray mentions...a tattoo artist that plays with silly painted line art.

I'm really more of an artist in general be it tattooing, painting, illustration, pinstriping, metalwork, music, blah blah blah... but tattooing pays the bills so I can play in all of the other mediums. I'm more of a renaissance man. Always liked tattoos. Drew all over my hands and arms as a child, and got tattooed as soon as I was old enough. Been tattooing over 15yrs. now, so I think my tattoos are a little more than a trend.

...black t-shirts help hide my belly these days.

I think the appearance of most newcomers to pinstriping has more to do with where they are exposed. many today get into striping from being into the hot rod scene. Most of the older stripers I have met or heard of were also sign painters. Might have a little to do with it.

Rollie, I'll still be a fan of yours even without any tattoos. Keep pumping out the brilliant work.

I brought this up long ago and got some enemies from the deal, when i see a bunch of people doing the same thing and looking the same i think"fad",but i gots me one tatt and i like them but being a pinstriper i have to have the best tatss and the average artists are chargin to much,if i would win the lottery i would get some more by the highest end artists, nothing worse that sh*tty tatts, same goes for striping. So my hidden one is pushin 10 years old and its a roth monster!!
I have mellowed though, what ever ya do just do it well, and dont be a poser,if you're gonna stripe in public you better be damn good,or get back to the shed!!!

I'm with Lonnie, my black clothes hide my fat ass and gut, plus being a diesel mechanic by day, black helps to hide the grease better. I am covered in tattoos, actually just got the old flying eyeball one week ago in a space I had left on one arm. I love tattoos, they don't make me a better artist or help me fit into a group, I just like having cool art work plastered all over me, just like I like to plaster my art work all over other peoples shit, however, my tattoos will never help me to stripe like you Rollie or you Hetz. The only thing that will help me is practice, and that, I need to do more of.

no piercings
no tats-----yet. but soon. have always loved tats, because its truely an artform that is something to be mastered just like anything we do w/ a brush. but like others have said, if i get a tat, its gotta be the best work out there hands down.

as for the black shirts, grey dickies.... then id have to say that ive dressed like that for as long as i can remember, and not because i wanna look a certain way, but because thats what i used to wear alot when i worked in mechanic shops. u just get used to it. ive been told once or twice, that i dont look the part but who really cares. u cant judge ppl by the cover. thats life.

as far as the tats go. sorry if i offend anyone but this makes me laugh. when u see half the ppl at the events rockin tats and piercings and tryin to look way too much like they belong, talk the talk, the whole nine yards y'know, then u see em leave the show and jump in their honda civic. lol

it used to be a runnin joke when we'd go hit up the bars or whatnot, and and ud see a random bunch of ppl that look for the most part normal, not tryin to impress anyone, minding their own business and whatnot. then u got the guys that are confused, act like they are all gangster-gangster, wannabe thugs. bar lets out, and mr. thug life is gettin into a camry and u look across the lot and all the normal lookin guys are gettin on their bikes, or climbin into their layed out trucks and rods lol

Practice practice practice.........

Well, who haven`t heard these words before...No secrets are revealed without years of practice.
I`ve just startet my journey into pinstriping and I find most difficult, irritating and exciting. I sit for hours just practicing lines and once in a while there comes a straight line and I can smell a bit of hope in the darkness.
In the beginning there is always alot of "AHA" and "F#$?%" moments...but never before have I felt this kind of calm and at the same time impatient feeling when studying some… Continue
